Do we ever 'really' get over someone?
No. I haven't recently broken up with someone.
And no, I am not still in love with my ex.
But to quote one of my favorite lines ever - 'The opposite of love is not hate... the opposite of love is indifference.'
How many people can honestly say that they feel absolutely nothing for someone they were once in love with? And I mean, nothing.. zilch... complete indifference.
Is that even possible? To not feel anything for someone who was once the reason behind your unexplained smiles. Someone whose absence caused you an almost physical discomfort. Someone who you could just talk to for hours or just sit across and not talk for hours.
So when we say we are 'over' somebody, are we ever really telling the truth?
Because if, as I suspect, we aren't telling the truth, doesn't every love last a lifetime ? ..... At least a fragment of it !!!

Yes, there does come a point when you become indifferent. It's when you fall in love with someone else and know that this person loves you more than anything else in the world and you love them just as much. It is then that no one else matters...
ReplyDeleteHmmm... Well... I find that difficult to believe. But then, maybe I need to fall in love again and re-evaluate my position. From where I am today, I think a part of you always feels 'something' for the person you once loved. Whether the feeling is positive or negative is irrelevant to this discussion. But absolute indifference ? That's got to be a tough one to come by.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you Taran..
ReplyDeleteA part of you always will love that person.. And it may not be the kind of love where you want to be with them but the kind of love where you always wish the best for them. Unless someone crushes your hurt so bad that the thought of them makes you angry.. You can't stop loving.. Out of personal experience .. You can fall in Love again with all your heart and soul but that won't ever take away that little part that will always care for an ex.
